Apple Tree Preschool
Communication
A close relationship between home and preschool is important to enable the sharing of information about the development of the child. To help shape this relationship, we will incorporate the following:
A Meet the Teacher Night for the parents and child before the start of preschool.
A Family Open House early in the preschool year.
A monthly calendar given to the parents by the teacher outlining the month's activities.
A bi-monthly newsletter for the parents with general preschool information.
An opportunity to receive the church's monthly newsletter that highlights the activities of the church.
Class bulletin dry erase boards in the hall by your child's classroom to provide information.
A mid-term Parent/Teacher Conference.
Special celebrations and activities during the year to which parents will be invited.
Opportunities for parents with special hobbies, interests, and occupations to share that information with us.
Parent help with projects and parent visitations to the classroom.
Apple Tree Preschool Board
Apple Tree Preschool will form a governing board consisting of the preschool director and teachers, the church minister, and six parents. There will be a board chairperson, treasurer, secretary and different committee leaders. The board will meet monthly to discuss the operation and curriculum of the preschool along with special parent night events and activities.
Robert's Rules of Order will be followed when conducting meetings.
Philosophy
Apple Tree Preschool offers an age appropriate program for creative, emotional, social, cognitive and physical development of the preschool child. The program is planned to meet the needs and abilities of the individual child. Opportunities are provided to develop the child's visual, auditory and large and small muscle motor skills and to improve communication skills by sharing experiences with formal and informal conversation and discussion. The daily activities help the child learn how to share ideas, thoughts, and materials as well as learn self-discipline and personal responsibilities. Apple Tree Preschool seeks to stimulate creative and cognitive development through everyday exposure to a wide variety of art and play materials and curriculum.
Thematic Curriculum
Apple Tree Preschool curriculum is based on the Ohio Department of Education Early Learning Content Standards for English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. The teachers will implement these content standards through theme based units. For example, themes for the three-year-old class may include a unit on Dinosaurs, Our Community, and Plant Life. Pre-K class themes may include a unit on the Solar System, Mexico, and The Arts.
Character Education
A monthly virtue will be taught selected from author William J. Bennett's, The Book of Virtues for Young People, 1997. The teacher will incorporate each month's virtue into the weekly curriculum through a story, craft, or activity as it relates to the theme. Examples of virtues that may be selected are self-discipline, compassion, responsibility, friendship, work, courage, perseverance, honesty, loyalty, and faith. Apple Tree Preschool believes that character education is important in the development of children.
